Golden Hour, Destiny Reflection, Kolkata, India

About Us

Our names are Zahra and Katie and we are both university students from Vancouver who are spending our Fall 2016 term working abroad in India. We are based in Kolkata for four months and travelling elsewhere within India whenever we have the chance.

This blog is our avenue for sharing our learning at Destiny Reflection, our experiences living in Kolkata, and all of our travels in between.

As a passionate Health Sciences student (soon to be graduate), throughout my career I hope to work globally as a public health professional, playing a central role in understanding and deconstructing the social, economic, and political structural disadvantages and circumstances that contribute to the suppression of women’s rights and the resulting poor health outcomes of women and children, especially in the developing world. My strong passion for advocating for women’s rights and against human trafficking is directly reflected in the work and aims of Destiny Reflection, who I am currently interning with. In my eyes, they are the ultimate example of a positive initiative that is successful in breaking poverty and exploitative cycles that hinder the growth and advancement of women.

Health, education and social justice. I am currently still in the midst of my degree but I am excited to explore ways to combine these three things into something beyond my undergrad. Interning at Destiny Reflection is an amazing opportunity to learn, share, and grow. I hope this blog can be a place for sharing pictures and thoughts as well as a way to connect new people to the important work that the Destiny Foundation continues to do.
